Connor Syme has claimed his first-ever victory on the DP World Tour after a composed final round at the KLM Open in the Netherlands. The 29-year-old from Scotland shot a steady 1-under-par 70 on Sunday to finish at 11-under overall, securing a two-shot win over Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren.
The win came in tough conditions at The International Golf Club in Amsterdam, where rain and wind tested the players throughout the final day. Despite the challenges, Syme remained focused, carding just one bogey and two birdies in a controlled performance.
Lagergren made a late surge with an eagle on the 18th, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Syme. South African Jayden Schaper rounded out the top three, finishing seven shots behind the winner.
The triumph ends a long wait for Syme, who had played over 180 events on the DP World Tour without a win. His only previous professional victory came on the Challenge Tour back in 2019. The emotional victory was made even more special with his family, including his wife Alanis, joining him on the green to celebrate.
Syme joins a prestigious group of Scottish golfers who have won the KLM Open, following in the footsteps of legends like Colin Montgomerie and Ken Brown. The tournament also saw strong performances from fellow Scots Ewen Ferguson and Richie Ramsay, who both finished in the top five.
Reflecting on the moment, Syme said he felt ready for the win and praised the support of his team. The victory also brought a major financial reward, with Syme taking home over £350,000 in prize money and pushing his career earnings beyond £3 million.
This win marks a career-defining moment for Syme and boosts Scotland’s growing presence on the global golfing stage.
