RICKIE FOWLER RESPONDS TO LIV GOLF RUMOURS AFTER LOSING A SPONSOR

Rickie Fowler has declared he has “zero plans to go anywhere” in light of his name being linked on social media with a move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in 2024.

Fowler, 35, was asked for comment about the LIV Golf rumours by Golfweek after finishing a disappointing 56th in the 59-man Sentry tournament in Hawaii.

The six-time PGA Tour champion admitted he barely looks at social media these days and so did not even realise his name was being linked with a move away to the Saudi-bankrolled circuit.

Fowler explained he is more than happy with the direction the PGA Tour is headed, as well as noting the great work being done by the likes of player directors Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth on the board.

Speaking to Golfweek, Fowler said in response to being linked to LIV Golf:

“You don’t have to worry about that. Seeing how much work the guys on the (PGA Tour) board, especially being around (Patrick) Cantlay during the off-season a little bit and leading up to this event, I’ve never seen a person be on the phone so much. These guys are pouring a lot of time and effort into it. I was on the PAC last year but have tried to stay out of the way because the guys that are in there, I trust. With Jordan, Cantlay, Tiger and the other guys, I’ve just trusted that we’re all going to end up in a good spot and I have zero plans to go anywhere.”
He added:

“I don’t check social media a whole lot. I kind of run everything through Instagram but rarely see stuff talked about on there. I guess it’s the day and age we live in. There’s only so much you can believe or trust because anything can be put out there. I’m real excited for what’s coming for me and for the Tour and all the time and effort these guys have been putting into it.”
Fowler’s name seemingly shot to the front of the LIV Golf rumour queue last week after the American lost one of his long-time sponsor deals with Farmers, which sponsors the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

Only the deal was up and it was a leadership decision not to extend, confirmed Fowler.

“My contract was up and I was told they weren’t looking to renew or extend. It was a good fit with them taking over at Torrey, a tournament I loved and was closest to where I grew up. I loved doing the fun commercials with them over the years, it was a great partnership, and it was their decision to scale back.”
Fowler also informed Golfweek that although another one of his deals with Rocket Mortgage expired at the end of 2023 (hence why the logo has been removed from his polo shirt), his team is working with the company on a future partnership.

“We have something in the works to move forward but it hasn’t been finalized yet. I think there is a good chance we will have the logo and move forward with the partnership there.”
Fowler clinched his first PGA Tour title in nearly four and half years at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July 2023.
