Scottie Scheffler concluded a remarkable 2024 season with a dominant victory at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in The Bahamas, securing his ninth title of the year. The 28-year-old delivered an outstanding final-round 9-under 63, finishing at 25-under par to claim a six-shot win over runner-up Tom Kim.
Despite taking a two-month break from golf to spend time with his wife, Meredith, and their baby, Bennett, Scheffler returned to competition in top form. His 2024 season highlights included seven official PGA Tour victories, his second Masters title in three years, a FedEx Cup triumph, and an Olympic gold medal in Paris. The Hero World Challenge marked his ninth win, adding $1 million to his earnings.
Scheffler became the first player since Viktor Hovland in 2022 to successfully defend the Hero World Challenge title, joining Hovland and Tiger Woods as the only players with multiple wins in the event’s history. Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler said, “It’s very satisfying to end the year like this. I did a lot of good stuff today, got off to a good start, and it feels great to see such positive results.”
Scheffler also debuted a new claw grip during the tournament, which proved effective. He ranked third in Strokes Gained Putting (3.780) and sank 97% of his putts from inside 10 feet, a significant improvement from his season average of 87%. Scheffler credited weeks of practice with coach Phil Kenyon and indicated he plans to use the grip in the 2025 season.
His final event for 2024 will be The Crypto.com Showdown in Las Vegas on December 17, where he will team up with Rory McIlroy against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
Meanwhile, tournament host Tiger Woods spoke to NBC but remained noncommittal about playing in the upcoming PNC Championship with his son, Charlie. Woods, recovering from a sixth back surgery in September, stated he would not return to PGA Tour action until he could compete at the highest level. For now, Woods remains focused on his recovery and other commitments, including the launch of his tech-driven TGL golf league in January 2025.
