Jon Rahm Forced to WD from Open de Espana Pro-Am

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the DP World Tour’s Open de Espana Pro-Am with his wife Kelley expecting their third child, but he ‘still intends to play’ in the tournament.

The DP World Tour has confirmed to GolfMagic that Jon Rahm ‘still intends to play’ in this week’s Open de Espana despite withdrawing from the Pro-Am due to his wife Kelley expecting their third child.

Rahm, 29, was forced to withdraw from LIV Golf’s season-ending Team Championship in Dallas at the weekend ‘due to flu symptoms’.

He was replaced on Legion XIII by John Catlin and his team finished fourth.

Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC were crowned team champions for the season.

Jon Rahm still expects to play in Open de Espana
Rahm’s travel from Arizona to Madrid has been impacted as a result of his wife Kelley Cahill still waiting to give birth to their third child, the DP World Tour has confirmed to GolfMagic.

Jon and Kelley are currently parents to two sons: Kepa, 3, and Eneko, 2.

Rahm still intends to participate in the first round on Thursday.

‘Jon Rahm has WD from the Open de Espana Pro Am due to personal reasons,’ a DP World Tour spokesperson told GolfMagic Editor Andy Roberts.

‘His wife is expecting their third child, impacting his travel from Arizona to Spain.

Rahm was allowed to compete in this week’s Open de Espana having appealed his fines on the DP World Tour.

The same scenario has applied to Rahm’s Legion XIII and European Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton, who returned to the DP World Tour earlier this month at the British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at The Belfry.

Both Rahm and Hatton were fined by the former European Tour circuit for having competed on LIV Golf this season.

Rahm’s fines are estimated to have now surpassed the $1m mark.

Hatton and Rahm’s decision to appeal their fines and return to the DP World Tour is vital for their Ryder Cup hopes.

That’s because they need to have played in at least four regular season events outside of the majors in order to maintain their DP World Tour membership and earn eligibility in Luke Donald’s 2025 European Ryder Cup team.
