Scottie Scheffler unhappy as reporter omits the Olympics medal from his season win tally
Scottie Scheffler won his seventh PGA Tour title of the season by claiming the Tour Championship on Sunday. However, he was unhappy that the Olympic gold medal wasn’t being counted as one of his wins.
On Sunday, September 1, Scheffler shot a 4-under 67 to win the Tour Championship. He finished at 30 under, beating Collin Morikawa by a two-stroke margin.
During the winner’s press conference, one of the journalists spoke to Scheffler about his incredible achievements this year, mentioning the seven PGA Tour wins. However, the World No. 1 golfer seemed dissatisfied that the Olympic gold medal wasn’t being counted as one.
“Still don’t understand why the Olympics doesn’t count,” he said. “That’s a bit weird to me. I think that’s part of the greed that goes on in your brain is you say seven, I’m like, I won eight. I won the Olympics in the middle of the year, and for some reason it doesn’t count as an official PGA Tour win.
“It counts the same as — no offense to the Hero (World Challenge) — but it counts the same as the Hero World Challenge in the grand scheme of things,” he added.
The 28-year-old golfer added that it had been a great year and he was proud of the results, but he was trying not to focus too much on these things.
“But at the end of the day, being able to win tournaments is a great feeling, and it’s what we work towards, and to be able to have as many wins as I have this year is really special,” he concluded.
