Max Verstappen acknowledges the crowd after securing pole position at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
According to Christian Horner, Red Bull’s dominance in the 2023 F1 season could have been even greater, with Max Verstappen potentially winning some races by a larger margin.
In the F1 2023 season, Red Bull achieved unprecedented dominance, winning 21 out of 22 races, with Max Verstappen securing 19 victories and claiming his third consecutive World Championship.
Max Verstappen secured the championship in Qatar with six races remaining, finishing with more than double the points of teammate Sergio Perez, who won in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. This achievement marked the first time in Red Bull’s history that they secured a one-two finish in the Drivers’ standings.
Christian Horner anticipates a more competitive Formula 1 field in the aftermath of Red Bull’s 2023 dominance. He cited the Bahrain Grand Prix, specifically, where Max Verstappen’s victory, finishing 38.6 seconds ahead of third-placed Fernando Alonso, could have been even more substantial.
Admitting that Red Bull halted development of the record-breaking RB19 car midway through the year due to imposed research-and-development restrictions, Christian Horner acknowledged the challenge of managing the car’s stress and engine reliability.
Reflecting on the season, he mentioned missed opportunities for greater advantages, particularly in the Bahrain Grand Prix. With wind tunnel restrictions influencing resource allocation, development ceased mid-year, leading to a more competitive field in the second half of the season.
In an exclusive interview, Horner expressed an expectation for the chasing pack to narrow the gap to Red Bull in the upcoming season.
