Having completed a 30-month prison sentence, Cabrera will be making a controversial return to Tour golf at this week’s Trophy Hassan II in Morocco.
Former Masters winner Angel Cabrera is set to make a controversial return to Tour golf this week, having served more than two years in prison for domestic violence charges.
Cabrera served his term in one of Argentina’s most infamous prisons and was released in August of 2023 after being convicted of charges against his former girlfriends Cecilia Torres Mana and Micaela Escudero.
Despite his recent controversies, though, Cabrera is officially listed in the field for the Trophy Hassan II at Royal Golf Dar es Salam in Morocco on the PGA Tour Champions this week.
The 54-year-old returned to competitive golf in December at the PGA Tour’s Latinoamerica Development Tour in his native Argentina, where he finished tied for 10th.

Since then, he has also recorded a third place finish at the South Open in his native Argentina, a tournament made up of current and aspiring Korn Ferry Tour players.
Cabrera will be teeing it up alongside the likes of Jim Furyk, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Colin Montgomerie as he returns to the American senior circuit.
The two-time major champion has previously stated it would be his “dream” to return to Augusta National for the Masters, but it could prove impossible if he is denied a visa to enter the United States.
“It would be a great privilege to return and to attend the Champions Dinner with so many of the golf world’s greatest players,” he said last year

If Cabrera’s travel troubles can be resolved, it has been made clear by the Augusta National chairman, Fred Ridley, that he would be welcomed back to the iconic venue.
He said: “Angel certainly is one of our great champions. He presently is not able to enter the United States.
“He doesn’t have a visa and I know that process is being worked through.
“We certainly wish him the best of luck with that, and we’ll definitely welcome him back if he’s able to straighten out those legal issues.”
Cabrera is currently listed as a “past champion not playing” at the 2024 Masters.
He last played in the Masters in 2018 when he missed the cut for a second year in a row.
Cabrera won his first major at the 2007 US Open and he then added a second with victory at the 2009 Masters.
