Xander Schauffele, fresh from his breakthrough win at The Open Championship, has brushed aside the ongoing debate between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, saying the focus should be on the game itself—not the divide.
After securing the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, Schauffele told reporters he’s not concerned with the politics surrounding the two tours. “Everyone’s always trying to compare, but at the end of the day, we’re all just out here to compete,” he said. “There’s way too much noise and not enough focus on the actual golf.”
The 30-year-old American, long regarded as one of the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour, acknowledged the disruption LIV Golf has caused but doesn’t see the need to take sides. For him, performance is what truly matters.
“Good golf is good golf, no matter where it’s played,” he said. “All the comparisons don’t do the game any favors. Just let the players play.”
His remarks come as tensions between the two tours continue to simmer, especially with several high-profile players now part of LIV. Still, Schauffele made it clear he believes the sport will sort itself out naturally—and that winning should be the ultimate focus.
“I’ve just won a major championship—that’s what counts,” he said. “Not which tour someone’s on.”
With his first major now under his belt, Schauffele has not only proven himself on the biggest stage, but also made it clear he wants no part in the off-course drama. His stance? Let the game speak for itself.
