LIV Golf player Sam Horsfield has spoken out after being disqualified from an Open Championship qualifying event at West Lancashire Golf Club on Tuesday. The 28-year-old failed to complete his round and was later disqualified for not informing tournament officials before walking off the course.
Horsfield had been seven-over-par through nine holes, including three straight double-bogeys, before deciding to withdraw. Although he didn’t officially notify the officials at the time, the golfer later explained that travel fatigue and a rough night before the event contributed to his decision.
Sharing his side on Instagram, Horsfield said:
“I flew back home Sunday night and landed at Heathrow around 4pm. By the time I got to West Lancs, it was late. I had dinner and went to bed around 10:30/11pm. At 1am, the fire alarm went off, and we had to stand outside for over an hour. I didn’t get back to sleep until 5:30am, with a 6am alarm—thankfully, my caddy woke me up. I felt dizzy and off all day.”
Addressing criticism online, he added, “Don’t buy into the negative noise from some pages targeting LIV players. Just wanted to clarify things. See you all in Valderrama next week.”
