Carlos Alcaraz Reacts to Jannik Sinner’s Surprise Wimbledon Team Shake-Up

Carlos Alcaraz has commented on Jannik Sinner’s unexpected decision to part ways with key team members just before the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

Sinner recently ended his professional relationships with fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio. The duo had joined his team in September 2024 after previously working with Novak Djokovic. They replaced Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi, who were dismissed following Sinner’s two failed doping tests in March last year.

When asked about the timing of the changes, Sinner downplayed any drama behind the move.

“Nothing major happened,” said the world No. 1. “I just wanted to try something different. I still feel ready to compete, and my team and I are focused on doing our best. I’m here to play good tennis — that’s what matters. I’m grateful for everything we achieved together, but it was time for a change.”

Following his straight-sets win over Luca Nardi in the first round, Sinner is eyeing his first Wimbledon title. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz, who also advanced, weighed in on the situation during his post-match press conference.

Asked whether he could imagine playing a Grand Slam without a personal physio and fitness coach, Alcaraz said, “There are good ATP physios available, but I personally wouldn’t want to compete without my own team. I’ve been with them a long time — they know my body better than I do. It would be tough without them.”

Sinner and Alcaraz could potentially meet in a blockbuster Wimbledon final, with the Italian aiming for his fourth Grand Slam title and the Spaniard hoping to defend his crown.
