Lewis Hamilton Approaches Max Verstappen After Possible Blocking Incident in Monaco GP Qualifying

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were seen having a brief conversation after the qualifying session for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, likely addressing an incident in Q1 where Hamilton appeared to impede Verstappen’s flying lap. The situation unfolded when Hamilton’s Ferrari, moving slowly up the hill, got in Verstappen’s way—later revealed to be due to a communication error from Hamilton’s race engineer, who mistakenly informed him that Verstappen was on a slow lap.

Hamilton, clearly frustrated, criticized his engineer over the team radio once he realized the mistake. Following the session, Hamilton approached Verstappen for what seemed to be a discussion about the event.

Both drivers have been called to the stewards to review the incident, which could still impact the final qualifying standings. Hamilton ended the session in P4, just ahead of Verstappen in P5.

Ferrari showed strong pace in Monaco, placing both cars in the top four. Although Charles Leclerc had dominated all three practice sessions, he was narrowly beaten to pole by McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Hamilton, continuing to be outpaced by his teammate this season, apologized to the Ferrari team post-session, saying, “Sorry to not have the pace dude,” to which his engineer Riccardo Adami responded, “It’s not too bad!”

The seven-time world champion now aims for his first traditional podium finish with Ferrari in Sunday’s race. However, that goal could be jeopardized if he receives a grid penalty from the stewards. Additionally, Monaco’s new rule mandating two pit stops may significantly alter team strategies.
