Charley Hull shares the real reason behind her bad play after a disappointing 2025 season so far

Charley Hull hasn’t had the strongest start to her 2025 LPGA Tour season, and heading into the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, many were wondering what’s been holding her back. After wrapping up her first round, Hull gave some insight into the mindset that may be affecting her game.

In a recent post by Boxto Golf, one of the brands she represents, Hull shared a candid quote that explains a lot about her recent struggles on the course. She admitted that playing conservatively just doesn’t suit her style—and when she isn’t fully engaged, her game tends to slip.

“I get bored if I’m not going for the pins,” she said. “And when I’m bored, I don’t play well. But if I stay aggressive, challenge myself, and go after birdies, that’s when I’m locked in and playing my best golf.”

It’s a revealing look into the mind of a player who thrives on risk and excitement—something that might explain both the highs and lows of her season so far.
