Nikola Jokic helped lead the Denver Nuggets to a crucial win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, extending their playoff run and forcing a decisive Game 7. The reigning three-time MVP isn’t fazed by the high stakes of the upcoming matchup.
“We’ve been in this position before. Game 7 is always interesting,” Jokic said. “You just go out there, give your best, and hope it’s enough.”
Despite Jamal Murray battling an illness, he played 42 minutes and contributed 25 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists while shooting 9-of-19 from the field. Another key contributor was Julian Strawther, who made a surprise impact off the bench with 15 points in just 20 minutes, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
“Julian came up huge,” Jokic said. “He knocked down big shots, grabbed key rebounds, and stayed aggressive. He hadn’t played much this series, but he stayed prepared and delivered when we needed him most.”
When asked what factors will be critical to winning the series, Jokic emphasized the importance of defense, rebounding, and ball control.
“For us, it’s going to come down to defense, attention to detail, and rebounding—especially with how aggressively they crash the boards,” he said. “Turnovers will be key. They like to push the pace and create looks through driving and kicking. We prefer a slower, more deliberate style. So the outcome may hinge on who dictates the tempo and takes care of the little things.”
The Nuggets now head to Oklahoma City for Game 7 on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MST. The winner will move on to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
