Cameron Smith, one of the high-profile names in professional golf, recently shared his thoughts on the LIV Golf tour and its role in preparing players for major championships. According to Smith, while LIV Golf offers competitive play, it may not provide the same level of intensity or challenge necessary to fully gear up for the biggest events in the sport.
The Australian golfer admitted that the unique format and limited schedule of LIV Golf events differ significantly from the traditional tours. This difference, he noted, might leave players less prepared when stepping into the more rigorous environment of major tournaments such as The Masters, U.S. Open, or The Open Championship.
Smith emphasized that while he enjoys his time with LIV Golf and appreciates what the tour brings to the table, it doesn’t quite replicate the kind of build-up and mental sharpening that comes from the PGA Tour or other traditional circuits. “It’s hard to simulate the pressure and the atmosphere of majors when you’re not consistently playing against a full-strength field in tough conditions,” he explained.
Despite these concerns, Smith remains optimistic about his performance in upcoming majors and believes that individual preparation off the course plays a crucial role. However, his comments highlight a growing discussion within the golfing world about how different tours impact player readiness at the highest level.
