McIlroy Set for Scottish Open Before Portrush Title Challenge

Rory McIlroy will compete in the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club as part of his build-up to the Open Championship, which will take place in his homeland of Northern Ireland this July.

The Masters winner is aiming for a second Open Championship victory at Royal Portrush from July 17 to 20.

The Scottish Open, held the week before golf’s final major of the year, will see McIlroy return to North Berwick, where he secured the 2023 title by narrowly defeating Scotland’s Bob MacIntyre.

“Winning a national open is always meaningful, and I’m excited for another shot at the Genesis Scottish Open,” said McIlroy, 35. “It’s been an unforgettable year, and I’m eager to maintain the momentum this summer in the sport’s homeland.”

McIlroy joined an elite group earlier this month by completing the career Grand Slam after a playoff victory over Justin Rose at Augusta.

Next on his schedule is the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow — a course he has triumphed on four times — from May 15 to 18.

Other top players set to participate in the Scottish Open include Rose, MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas.
