How much does Jon Rahm owe the DP World Tour in fines? Full amount and his stance explored

Jon Rahm owes $1.17 million to the DP World Tour as a fine, as per Golf broadcaster Jeff Eisenband. The European Tour has sanctioned and suspended players who participated in the LIV Golf tournaments.

DP World Tour imposes a $98,000 fine per event on members who compete in LIV Golf events that clash with tour commitments. Rahm joined LIV Golf in December 2023 and has played the 2024 season on the Saudi breakaway Tour. With 12 LIV events clashing with the DP World Tour in 2024, Rahm is liable for fines totaling £900,000/$1.17 million.

Last month, Rahm said that he wished to compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. However, to fulfill the eligibility criteria, he has to retain his DP World Tour card by playing in at least four events this year.

DP World Tour has confirmed that the Olympics will count as one of the events, but Majors will not. Rahm, therefore, is required to play in three more events to retain his card. However, he’ll have to pay fines to play again on the European Tour.

In the pre-tournament press conference before LIV Golf Chicago, Jon Rahm said (via The Times):

“I’m still talking to the DP World Tour. I intend to play in Spain. Whether they let me play or not is a different thing.”

Talking about the fines, the Spaniard said:

“I’m not a big fan of the fines, I think I’ve been outspoken about that, and I don’t intend to pay the fines. We keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen.”

Responding to Rahm’s statements, a DP World Tour spokesperson said:

“Jon has outstanding sanctions for breaches of the DP World Tour’s conflicting tournament regulation. Until those outstanding sanctions are resolved, he is ineligible to play in a DP World Tour event.”

Jon Rahm will next compete in LIV Golf Chicago, scheduled from Friday, September 13 to 15 at Bolingbrook Golf Club.
