Few of the pins were ridiculous” – Jordan Smith slams officials for poor management after receiving penalty at the Omega European Masters

Jordan Smith is playing at the Omega European Masters, which is presented by the DP World Tour. After Saturday’s round at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, Smith was given a two-shot penalty, reportedly for his drop landing in the penalty area on the 12th hole. This led to him recording a triple bogey on 12.

Following the day’s play, Smith shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that contained complaints against DP World Tour officials.Smith said,
“A day to forget but a day for the @DPWorldTour refs to forget. The quickest these greens have ever been by far but they still decide to use the same pins as old plus with high winds today. Even with the perfect conditions yesterday a few of the pins were ridiculous.”

Smith’s current score is 2-under. In the first round, Smith shot 66 with bogeys on holes 2, 3 and 5. He then had two birdies, on 6 and 7. Next, he fired a birdie on hole 10 and shot a bogey on hole 12. He dropped five more birdies, on 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18.In the second round, Smith shot a 65. He parred the first hole and carded a birdie on the fourth. He dropped four more birdies from holes 6 to 9. On the back nine, he bogeyed holes 10 and 12, birdied the 13th and 14th, and parred 18.

In the third round, he bogeyed the second hole and birdied holes 5, 6. On the last nine, he had a bogey on the 10th hole and a triple bogey on the 12th. He had another birdie on the 14th and two bogeys on 16 and 18. Smith had a double bogey on the 17th to settle his total for the third round at 77.

Jordan Smith is 17th on the Omega European Masters leaderboard, while Matt Wallace is leading after the third round. Henrik Norlander is tied for third place with Cedric Gugler. Bernd Wiesberger is at T17 and Rikuya Hoshino is at T21.
