Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus will be delighted the Memorial has moved back to its regular date after the PGA Tour announced their 2025 schedule.
Jack Nicklaus has got his wish after the PGA Tour announced their 2025 schedule.
The Golden Bear wasn’t happy the Memorial Tournament was moved a week before the U.S. Open this year.
In his annual news conference at Muirfield Village, the now 84-year-old expressed his desire for the PGA Tour stop to be moved back to its usual date, in the week following Memorial Day.
“When I played, I rarely played a week before any major championship,” Nicklaus previously said.
“So I’m asked to be part of putting on a golf tournament in a week that I would never play.”
Nicklaus said he agreed to move the Memorial for 2024 as a favour to the Tour.
For the 2025 season, the Memorial will be played two weeks prior to the U.S. Open, with the Canadian Open moving into the slot before the major.
As ever, the FedExCup regular season and playoffs will feature 39 stops with events across the United States, Mexico, Canada, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
There are eight signature events.
Details of the FedExCup Fall Schedule will be revealed later, the Tour said.
“The new schedule and competitive changes introduced in 2024 were significant steps towards creating the best version of the PGA Tour for our fans and players,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in the memo.
“Fields were significantly stronger across the board, while the signature events provided fans more opportunities to see the PGA Tour’s best competing head-to-head.
“As we enter the second year of this reimagined schedule, one thing remains a constant – winning on the PGA Tour continues to rank among the most difficult and rewarding accomplishments in sport.
“We are grateful to the entire membership, especially our player directors and player advisory council, as well as our tournaments and partners.”
Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that Truist will be the title sponsor of the Tour’s stop in Charlotte.
The financial corporation has agreed a seven-year deal to sponsor the event held at Quail Hollow Club.
RBC has also signed on for one-year renewals for both the Heritage and Canadian Open.
The bank has been the Tour’s only major sponsor question.
It means the PGA Tour is now fully sponsored for the seventh straight season.
