Report: Tiger Woods turns down chance to captain 2025 US Ryder Cup team

Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of the running to skipper the 2025 United States Ryder Cup team with an announcement of the new captain to be made on Tuesday.

Tiger Woods will not be the next US Ryder Cup captain
Tiger Woods has reportedly turned down the opportunity to become 2025 United States Ryder Cup captain, according to Telegraph Sport.

Woods, 48, was tipped by many to become the next US Ryder Cup captain for the first time in his career at Bethpage Black from 26-28 September 2025.

But the 15-time major champion has reportedly ‘rejected an offer’ to captain the US team as it goes in search of wrestling the Ryder Cup back off Europe in New York.

Woods is understood to be spending a great deal of his time away from the course working on the PGA Tour’s ongoing deal with LIV Golf’s bankrollers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

His new TGL alongside Rory McIlroy also starts up in January 2025, which will again take up a lot of his time.

The former World No.1 has only played in four tournaments so far this season as a result of his ankle surgery last season.

While Woods says he can still play all the shots, he has admitted to struggling to walk all 72 holes.

He withdrew from the Genesis Invitational before going on to finish solo 60th at The Masters.

Woods then missed the cut in both the US PGA and US Open.

He will next tee it up in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon in two weeks’ time.

Woods’ decision to reject the 2025 US Ryder Cup captaincy now leaves the door open for a number of others.

It is understood Stewart Cink, Fred Couples and Davis Love III are now the frontrunners to captain the 2025 US Ryder Cup team.

An official decision will be made by the PGA of America in New York on Tuesday 9 July.

Europe have already confirmed that Luke Donald will once again be their captain at Bethpage Black.
