McLaren driver Lando Norris claimed that he would go for the win after securing the pole position for the Spanish GP on Saturday. The British driver was simply outstanding throughout the qualifying session as he looked like the only driver to fight with three-time world champion Max Verstappen. The 24-year-old was the quicker of the two McLaren drivers as Oscar Piastri could not set a timed lap in the Q3 session after getting his lap deleted and running wide in the final corner in his two fast runs. However, there were no such problems for his teammate as Norris got the pole position from Verstappen at the last ditch by a mere 0.020s.In his post-quali interview, Lando Norris was hyped up about his chances on Sunday despite recognizing Max Verstappen’s long-run pace.
He said:”Max and Red Bull seemed a little bit stronger all weekend but we made some little changes for the final run, I had some areas to improve, and we did that.””I know it is going to be tough against Max, against Lewis, and everyone behind. We are here to win so that is my plan.”Lando Norris gives his take on his ‘perfect’ pole lap in BarcelonaLando Norris stated that his pole position lap in Barcelona was perfect and he had nothing more left to give in the session. He told the media:”It was pretty much a perfect lap. You know when you are on a good lap and you are getting excited. But the whole thing went perfectly in the end. Close still but super happy. I would say my best pole position.
I have not had many but of the ones I have had my best.”The McLaren driver recognized that he had previously missed out on opportunities to get the fastest time in qualifying by small margins, adding:”It has been close all weekend but really it was about a perfect lap and that is what I did today. It is not just this weekend- we have been fast the last two months since Miami we have been strong. We have missed out on pole by just not doing a perfect lap and today was a perfect lap.”It was the second pole position in F1 for Lando Norris, having previously taken the honor in Sochi 2021 in damp conditions from Carlos Sainz and George Russell
