Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has expressed disappointment after Rory McIlroy’s loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open 2024.
On Rory McIlroy’s loss, Brandel Chamblee said:
“I can’t remember a higher quality player coming up smaller in a big moment down the stretch than that.”
Rory McIlroy made five birdies in the first 13 holes of the day, taking two strokes lead off Bryson DeChambeau. However, he then scored three bogeys on the 15th, 16th and 18th holes. The major let-off was when he missed two putts under 4 feet on the 16th and 18th holes as seen in the above video.
Talking about Mcllroy missing the putt on the 18th hole, winner Bryson DeChambeau said (via BBC):
“Rory is one of the best to ever play. Being able to fight against a great like that is pretty special. For him to miss that putt (on par-4 18th), I’d never wish it on anybody. Luckily, things went my way.”
Mcllroy finished as runner-up with one shot behind DeChambeau. Mcllroy scored 5-under 275 and DeChambeu scored 6-under 274.
The World No.3 finished as a runner-up for the second time consecutively at the US Open. Last year, he lost to Wyndham Clark by one stroke. This was also his fifth consecutive top-10 finish at the competition
