Ryder Cup star Bob MacIntyre could not control his anger during the second round of the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2, with Sky Sports forced to apologise for his outburst

Bob MacIntyre has made a solid start to the US Open in North Carolina, but he was disgusted by a shot early in his second round on Friday, with commentators forced to apologise for his outburst.

The Scotsman, who claimed his maiden PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open last time out, carded a level-par opening round at Pinehurst No. 2 on Thursday to ease his way into the tournament, five shots off overnight leaders Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay.

And after two pars to start his second round on Friday morning, he found the fairway with his tee shot at the par-four 382-yard third. But when taking aim for the green, the 27-year-old chunked his approach shot into a front bunker guarding the putting surface.

MacIntyre was furious with himself and unleashed a booming X-rated outburst which was caught on the broadcast. “F*** sake, don’t plug,” he shouted, with Sky Sports commentator Andrew Coltart apologising to viewers for MacIntyre’s “West coast of Scotland language”.

Fortunately for MacIntyre, he caught a reasonable lie in the trap and splashed out onto the green to leave a seven-footer for par. MacIntyre scrambled expertly throughout his opening round to get in the clubhouse at level par, and he showcased those skills again, confidently draining his putt to march to the fourth hole with a clean card intact.
