Multiple major champ Brooks Koepka was told by golf fans his drop ‘didn’t add up’ during the opening round of LIV’s event in Houston, Texas.
Brooks Koepka was told his drop during LIV Golf Houston’s opening round was dodgy.
At least that is the verdict from some golf fans on X, who weren’t sure that his actions were entirely honest.
The moment in question arrived on the par-5 fourth hole after the five-time major champion found the water with his second shot.
A long discussion between Koepka and his playing partner Patrick Reed ensued over where his ball crossed.
After they both agreed that point, then things got interesting.
Koepka took a drop and, per the rules of golf, was able to place his ball after it rolled back into the hazard twice.
But his ball kept on moving when he was trying to place it.
The golf rules stipulate that when this happens players are allowed to place it nearby, but no closer to the hole.
But some golf fans believed Koepka’s ball was in play several times and he only continued picking it up and placing it for a more favourable lie.
Of course it didn’t go unnoticed that Reed was involved in this exchange, given the controversy he was involved in during his PGA Tour days.
“I wouldn’t be too happy if my opponent did that in my Club Championship that’s for sure,” FlushingIt wrote on X, who clipped and re-shared the video.
In the end, Koepka made a bogey six on the hole.
But this will undoubtedly be a big talking point over the next few days.
