Grayson Murray cause of death confirmed
When Murray withdrew from the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday May 24, the reason given was ‘illness’.

But Murray’s parents confirmed on Sunday afternoon that their son died by suicide on Saturday morning.

Murray had started the tournament with a round of 2-under 68, but he was 5-over par thru 16 holes and just outside the cut mark when he withdrew from the tournament on Friday.

His parents have expressed how their son was loved by all of his family and friends.

Murray had been open with his mental health struggles in the past during his golf career.

He was also previously critical of the PGA Tour for allegedly not helping him enough with alcoholism.

In May 2023, Murray told how his parents ‘had been through hell and back with me’.

The statement from Grayson Murray’s parents read as follows:

We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.

We have so many questions that have no answers.

But one.

Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed.

We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.

Please respect our privacy as we work through this incredible tragedy, and please honor Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.

Thank you.

A host of PGA Tour and LIV Golf players have been leaving tributes to Murray and paying their respects to his family and friends on social media this weekend.
