Scottie Scheffler Cracks Dad Joke to Reporters Ahead Of PGA Championship

World number one Scottie Scheffler was already cracking dad jokes after he arrived at Valhalla ahead of the 2024 US PGA Championship.

Scottie Scheffler jokingly asked reporters if anybody had any ‘diaper advice’ after he rocked up to Valhalla on Monday evening.

Scheffler’s appearance in the second men’s major of the year was in doubt given his wife Meredith’s due date was reportedly a couple of weeks after the 2024 Masters.

But the American world number one officially announced the birth of their baby boy Bennett 24 hours ago, who was born on 8 May.

Scheffler spent some time on Monday afternoon hitting balls ahead on the practice ground before playing nine holes alongside his caddie Ted Scott.

He joked to Golf Channel: “If anybody has got any diaper advice, I could use it.

“I had high expectations of what that would feel like [to be a dad] and those were far exceeded. I thought it would be pretty great and it’s a pretty amazing feeling.”

Scheffler has not played competitively for three weeks.

He skipped the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow which was won by world number two Rory McIlroy.

Despite the break, Scheffler said he has been able to get some ‘good work in’ ahead of the PGA Championship.

He added: “Obviously, not my usual stuff with him being born in the middle of last week; I took a more significant break than I would have, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

“It was so fun to get home and spend some time with him and Meredith and just hang out and be a dad for a few days. It was fun times at the Scheffler house, for sure.”

Scheffler is vying for his fifth win in six starts.

His flurry of victories began at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

He subsequently claimed the ‘fifth’ major at Sawgrass in March, won a second green jacket before scooping another victory at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Asked how he can remain focused, Scheffler said: “I think just mentally, being as present as I can, being committed to my shots, not worrying about the results of things – just being committed to what I’m doing.

“I want to be as prepared as possible in an event and standing here today, I feel like I’m as prepared as possible. I feel like my game is in a good spot and looking forward to competing this weekend.”
