Sir Nick Faldo Twists Knife On Jon Rahm After Frustrating Masters Performance

Sir Nick Faldo took a not-so-subtle dig at Jon Rahm after the Spanish LIV Golf pro struggled to live up to his billing at the 2024 Masters.

Sir Nick Faldo was quick to twist the knife on defending Masters champion Jon Rahm after watching his poor title defence.

Faldo took to X before the final round began to reshare the comments he made about the Spaniard in the lead-up to the first major of the year.

The Englishman, who won three green jackets in his illustrious hall of fame career, said Rahm hadn’t been tested in 2024.

He was referring to the fact Rahm joined LIV Golf last December and has played far fewer competitive rounds this year than last.

Faldo even went as far as saying Rahm had been ‘playing resort courses in his shorts’.

Although he did admit that he hoped his move to the breakaway tour would have sped up the peace talks between LIV and the PGA Tour.

Rahm made the cut at the 2024 Masters by the skin of his teeth in extremely blustery conditions.

Winds were gusting up to 30-35mph and Rahm dropped some huge F-bombs on his way to rounds of 73 and 76.

There was one moment that really stood out and that arrived in the second round when he made a double bogey on the 14th hole.

Rahm three-putted but it was all the more enraging for the Spaniard as his five-footer for par ran past the hole some 20ft.

When he finally completed his round he was extremely critical of the tournament organisers for not halting play.

And, much like his LIV teammate Tyrrell Hatton, was enraged by the pace of play that saw some groups take nearly six hours to complete their rounds.

“A couple times, [I found myself] questioning why we were out there,” Rahm said.

“Especially when I got to 18 and saw the whole front of the green just full of sand. It’s rolling a little bit different. I understand they want us to finish.

“I can imagine they were very close to calling it a few times, especially when we were on 11 green and we were getting those massive gusts every couple of minutes or so.”

Pressed on how long golfers were taking to get round Augusta National, Rahm added: “Not only that, how long did it take us to play?

“Over six hours to play just because they had to blow the greens in between groups, and then when you get to a group, people stepping back and back in. It’s just, again, borderline.

“It was very, very close. It’s about as hard a golf course as I’ve seen in a very long time.
