Scottie Scheffler amused PGA Tour fans during the first round of the Genesis Invitational for throwing his golf ball into the trees.
Scottie Scheffler with the early contender for strop of the year (?!) at Riviera
Scottie Scheffler’s battle with his putter was described as ‘one of the greatest rivalries in our sport today’ after his frustration on the greens boiled over during the first round of the Genesis Invitational.
The amusing thing for Scheffler was despite his displeasure he was still right there in contention on day one of Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour event given his skill off the tee and an iron in hand.
But on the putting surfaces it just wasn’t happening again for the world number one.
Take, for example, his failure to convert a par putt from 2ft 6ins on the par-3 fourth. He had done all the hard work, pitching to gimme range from 34 yards before inexplicably missing the cup.
Scheffler turned in 3-under and had set up a birdie opportunity from five feet at the par-5 11th.
No bueno once again.
And Scheffler was absolutely furious. As he marched towards the next tee box, he was filmed launching his Titleist ProV1 deep into the trees.
Take that, golf ball!
“First extended period of watching golf in a while, I actually can not believe Scottie Scheffler’s putting,” one X user wrote.
Another added: “Scottie Scheffler versus his putter is one of the greatest rivalries in sports today.”

At the time, it was his fifth birdie putt missed in five holes.
Scheffler wasn’t done there, though, as he three-putted from inside 10 feet at the par-3 16th.
He looked as if he was going to smash his putter into smithereens, but thought better of it.
Across the day, Scheffler lost -2.968 strokes on the greens, which was 69th in the 80-man field.
