Petrol’s days are numbered in F1 – Verstappen

Max Verstappen anticipates the end of Formula 1’s reliance on petrol, stating that the sport is moving towards greener and more sustainable practices.

When asked about the sport’s future in a decade, the triple world champion mentioned to Blick newspaper, “Petrol will probably be gone.

” He added a touch of humor, saying, “What is for certain is that Max Verstappen will no longer be there.”

In 2014, Formula 1 made a controversial shift from loud, fuel-guzzling naturally-aspirated engines to hybrid ‘power units,’ with plans to enhance the use of electrical elements and sustainable fuels further by 2026.

While hydrogen, a clean energy source, hasn’t been extensively discussed, F1 and the FIA have now revealed the formation of a working group. This collaboration, in conjunction with the FIA’s Extreme E series transitioning to hydrogen as Extreme H from 2025, aims to explore and contribute to the development of hydrogen propulsion.

Formula 1’s chief technical officer, Pat Symonds, emphasized the sport’s commitment to introducing new technologies rapidly.
