The top 20 players have secured their spots in Sunday’s final round at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, presenting a “Chance of a Lifetime” opportunity to join the prestigious LIV Golf League. The competition intensifies as these players vie for a coveted place in the league, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.
Abu Dhabi, UAE – After a day of fierce competition in the initial round of LIV Golf Promotions at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, 42 players contended in the second round for one of the 20 spots in the final stage of this three-day qualifier.
The goal was to secure a chance to pursue their LIV Golf aspirations.The standout performance of the day came from Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai, who posted a flawless eight-under par 64, securing a comfortable position in Sunday’s finale. Prateeptienchai credited his success to error-free play, especially in putting, expressing confidence in his overall game.
His compatriot, Suradit Yongcharoenchai, accompanied him with a strong five-under par 67, securing a place in Sunday’s competition. Yongcharoenchai acknowledged minor driver issues but was grateful for his caddie’s support, calling it a lucky day.Braden Thornberry led the American contingent, carding a six-under par 66, with an eagle on the final hole. Despite a slow start, Thornberry turned things around on the back nine, securing a spot in the upcoming rounds.
Chinese standout Sampson Yeunhe Zheng impressed with a five-under par 67, expressing satisfaction with his performance. Zheng remained focused on the present, acknowledging the support from home and the opportunity to be the first Chinese player in the LIV Golf league.
Australian Jed Morgan aimed to reclaim his spot in the LIV Golf roster, delivering a solid 6-under par 66. Reflecting on his round, Morgan emphasized the importance of consistent play and expressed determination to earn his place again.Kieran Vincent, aspiring to follow his brother Scott’s path as an LIV Golf player, executed a clean, bogey-free round of five-under par 67.
Vincent expressed satisfaction with executing the game plan and looked forward to the possibility of playing alongside his brother in the 2024 roster.The top 20 players finished three-under par or better, leading to a playoff between the five players tied for 17th place at three-under par.
Laurie Canter secured his spot with a birdie, while the two Kevins, Chappell and Yuan, parred the 18th hole. Joel Stalter and Ben Campbell battled it out in a playoff, with Stalter eventually earning the final spot with a birdie on the second hole.
The drama sets the stage for the final day, where three players will earn the chance to become fully-fledged LIV Golf players in 2024.
