Dwight Howard appears to have drawn inspiration from the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. The eight-time All-Star is currently aiming for an NBA comeback after sitting out the 2021-22 season.
His most recent stint involved playing for the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan during the 2022-23 season, and there were rumors linking him to the Golden State Warriors in the recent off-season.
Although he hasn’t played a game this season, the 38-year-old utilized X, formerly known as Twitter, to convey his eagerness to hit the court for an In-Season Tournament match before retiring from his basketball career.
In its inaugural season, the tournament introduced a group stage followed by a single-elimination knockout round.
All matches were held at home courts until the semifinals and championship game, which were hosted in Las Vegas. The Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers emerged as the contenders for the first championship game, held on a Saturday night.
Given Dwight Howard’s multiple stints with the Lakers, it’s evident how he could feel a connection to the event. With career averages of 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks, Howard, although not the superstar of his past, could still bring a valuable veteran presence to a team in need of experienced role players.
