Tiger Woods significantly boosted viewership for NBC and Golf Channel following a lackluster fall season.
His PGA Tour comeback after surgery drew over a million viewers in the United States alone, indicating his enduring impact on the game.
Woods’ performance at the Hero World Challenge suggested he might be a key figure in the 2024 season with his commitment to one tournament per month.Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal reported a 53% increase in average viewership, reaching 617,000 for the week on NBC, Golf Channel, and Peacock.
Tiger’s play notably elevated Golf Channel’s average viewership over two days to 493,500, nearly double the 2022 figures. The weekend saw increases with 1.03 million average viewers on Saturday (up 57%) and 884,000 on Sunday (up 31%). Saturday’s viewership marked the highest since Tiger’s 2019 comeback at the same event.
The PGA Tour’s marquee tournaments seem to align with Tiger’s reduced schedule, emphasizing their importance. His next likely appearance is at the PNC Championship in mid-December alongside son Charlie, testing Woods’ ability to attract attention to less prominent events.
Despite doubts about playing at his peak Major-winning level, Woods expressed confidence in improving his game through recovery and conditioning.
Tiger Woods, not returning to golf as a favor to the PGA Tour, continues to engage in various projects, including his course design company’s latest venture with the Marcella Club in Park City, Utah.
While acknowledging limitations in executing certain shots, Woods is excited about his recent performance, demonstrating recovery and the ability to adapt to the challenges of competitive play.
