Former tennis pro Andrea Petkovic compared Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek to ATP stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, suggesting they are the standout talents on the WTA Tour. However, she excluded Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula from that elite group. Swiatek recently captured the Wimbledon title, while Sinner also secured his first win at the event in 2025.
Petkovic, who reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2014 and retired in 2022, remains deeply involved in tennis. She shares her views via a Substack newsletter and co-hosts a podcast with Boris Becker. After Wimbledon concluded with victories from Swiatek and Sinner, Petkovic praised Swiatek and Sabalenka as the top women’s players, likening their dominance to that of Alcaraz and Sinner in the men’s game.
Still, she pointed out a key difference: consistency. According to Petkovic, Swiatek and Sabalenka are more prone to fluctuations in form than their male counterparts, who have claimed the last seven Grand Slam titles among themselves. She openly left out 2025 French Open winner Coco Gauff and 2024 US Open finalist Jessica Pegula from the top tier.
“For me, Aryna and Iga are clearly the best. They’re like Sinner and Alcaraz,” she said. “But they don’t maintain the same level across Slams. Gauff and Pegula can beat them occasionally, which is rarer in the men’s field. Still, when Swiatek and Sabalenka are at their peak, they’re ahead of everyone else.”
Swiatek’s 2025 Wimbledon run was especially impressive—she didn’t lose a single set and won the final 6-0, 6-0 against Amanda Anisimova, becoming only the second woman in the Open Era to do so. Petkovic was especially impressed by her confidence and consistency, noting,
“When Iga hits her stride, she’s virtually unstoppable. She’s the only active player with multiple long win streaks—she won 37 matches straight when she first became world No. 1, and had another 25-match streak last year. She plays each point with laser focus.”
Petkovic even compared Swiatek to tennis legend Steffi Graf—not for her technique, but for her fierce mentality and competitive intensity on court.
